Welcome
| Hello Newton Voters,
I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the Newton School Committee. I am running for the seat in Ward 5. My wife and I are grateful to be in the broad community of involved citizens throughout Newton who truly value our school system. My fifth- and eighth-grade daughters are thriving at Zervas and Oak Hill. Yet, while we have a very good school system, I believe that we must raise the quality of our analysis and decision making to address neglected issues as well as new challenges. |

We are at a watershed moment:
- We must hire a visionary new Superintendent to lead our school system.
- We must establish and maintain sustainability in the economics of our school system.
- After decades of neglecting our school buildings, we must revitalize our physical infrastucture.
I will bring to the School Committee a passion for civic issues and a strong ability to base decisions on sound analysis. Over the last several years, I have become increasingly involved in the issues that affect our quality of life in Newton. I plan to bring to these issues a reasoned voice, a deep respect for transparent process, and a keen interest in adopting best practices from wherever we find them.
I have voiced my opinions in op-ed columns, and I co-founded Newton 20/20: Vision for Effective Government to advocate for openness and best practices in our city government. I have drawn on my experience as a structural engineer and local business owner with a view to improving our community. I will foster and support a progressive vision within the Newton Public Schools as a member of the School Committee. I seek to represent you well and make you proud to support me.
Please review my experience, and objectives on this website. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about the issues we face together and how we can address them effectively. Please call or email me with your thoughts and questions.
I ask for your support in this campaign and for your vote.
Thanks.
